Margaret Frances Coonan was the second of five children and only daughter born to Michael Francis Coonan and his wife Mary Honora Meehan. She was born on March 4, 1886, at Yea.
Margaret was only seven years old when her father died in 1893, and 14 when she lost her mother in 1900. She was raised by her paternal Aunt Butler, Margaret Coonan Butler, who was her father's only sister. Margaret Butler adopted the three Coonan siblings and raised them as her own since she had a childless marriage with her husband, Thomas Butler.
Margaret Butler had a home in Garnet Street, Preston South. In 1909, when she was 21, Margaret Coonan appeared for the first time on an electoral roll, and her entry was 'Margaret Frances Coonan, Garnet Street, Preston, home duties."
In 1913, Margaret Coonan married a grazier from Boorolite near Mansfield named Patrick Roger Hearn, and Margaret lived there for the rest of her life as a grazier's wife. I do not know the extent of their family- the only child that I definitely know of is daughter Catherine Hearn, a lovely lady who was known as "Cassie".
