Mary Bourke was born at Burramine on December 12, 1888, the third daughter and eighth child of 45 year old Paddy and 39 year old Margaret Bourke.
Like her sister Margaret preceding her, little Mary did not live to see her first birthday. On the 25th of January, 1889, Mary Bourke fell victim to infantile cholera ( 19th century definition: a disease of infants prevailing in Summer and characterized by vomiting, uncontrollable diarrhea and collapse) at the age of six weeks. The duration of her illness was five days, and Dr.Denis had visited her on January 23.
