Above: From The Argus, July 1884- notice of the marriage of Timothy Bourke to Mary Ann Howard.

Timothy Bourke was born on December 4, 1857, at Slab Hut Creek, Bylands, Kilmore, to 35 year old Bridget Bourke and her 40 year old husband Patrick . He was baptised when only two days old by Father O’Rourke, and his sponsors were Maurice and Catherine Mulchinock.
Tim was educated at Kilmore, and moved with his family to Pine Lodge when they started farming there in the early 1870s.
In 1884, aged 27 years, Timothy Bourke married Mary Ann Howard, the daughter of James Howard and Ann O'Brien. After the death of his father in 1886, they moved to the Boosey area where several of his siblings were already settled.
In 1891 he registered the death of his niece Annie Bourke, and signed himself as “Timothy Bourke, Uncle, Boosey”. As late as 1909 Timothy and his family were still living in the Shepparton district, but the electoral roll for 1914 reveals that the family had moved to the city and were living at 23 Beaconsfield Parade, Northcote:
Timothy Bourke, labourer
Mary Ann Bourke, home duties
Patrick Michael Bourke, butcher
Bridget Florence Bourke, home duties
Annie Loretta Bourke, dressmaker.

The electoral roll of 1919 had only three Bourkes living at 23 Beaconsfield Parade:
Timothy Edward Bourke, labourer
Patrick Michael Bourke, butcher
Annie Loretta Bourke, dress maker.

Timothy's wife, Mary Ann Howard Bourke, had died in 1918, aged 61 years. His daughter Bridget died in 1915, aged 24 years, and his youngest daughter, Esther, died in 1919, aged only 21.

Timothy and his remaining family moved house to 56 Best Street, Fitzroy. The 1924 electoral roll was as follows:
Timothy Edward Bourke, labourer
Patrick Michael Bourke S.A Officer
Annie Loretta Bourke costumier

In 1931, Timothy Bourke was still at 56 Best Street, Fitzroy:
Timothy Edward Bourke, labourer
Patrick Michael Bourke, S.A Officer
